First invented in 1868, the flipbook is a book with a series of pictures that vary gradually from one page to the next, so that when the pages are flipped rapidly they appear to animate.

This set of six flipbooks comes from Eadweard Muybridge's 1870's pioneering work on animal locomotion. He used multiple cameras to capture motion in stop-motion photographs to study the way animations move. This set of flipbooks uses Muybridge's original photographs to demonstrate his groundbreaking experiment.

Each flipbook is 4.25 X 2 inches ( 108 X 50 mm)
